The coho fishing continues to be unbelievable. It has slowed only to the point that charters are running most of their five hour trips to limit out versus the 2 – 3 hour limits from previous weeks. Enjoy it while it lasts as all great things must end. There has been a change in the past two days from the prior report. The fish have moved out it seems. We have been seeing a ton of fish on the screen in the shallower water, but they are either feeding too heavily on all the bait, or they are not salmon because bites are hard to come by inside of 200 feet. Yesterday the 200 to 260 range held most of the feeding school of coho. Today charters report the bite has moved out past 300 feet of water. If you are planning to give them chase in your smaller boat, keep an eye on the weather as you are in for a long ride out, and more importantly, back.
I’d like to offer some great new bait advice, but the it is still all about the peanut fly and dodger. The best presentation has been Richard’s blue green gold 14 – 15 inches behind an orange double-O. Blue pearl and aqua colors have been also been producing and if you get into a feeding school, just about anything will work. Hang on and enjoy the great fishing.
Captain Stu Natale would like to put the call out for boats for the Big Brothers / Big Sisters outing on Sunday June 26th. Take a kid fishing and introduce him or her to our great sport. You can call Stu to volunteer on his cell phone. Get your pen because here is the number…262 689-4060. Leave him a message if you don’t get through, with your phone number. Hope to see you down there on the 26th.

Well have you gotten out for some of the coho? I hope so because it has been incredible. I am not the only charter captain who has said this is the best action they can recall seeing for coho. To make it even more fun, a few more kings have started showing up since the weekend and they are big and ornery. I have had a few calls asking if anything has changed since the weekend’s report. I think a few people thought I fell off my rocker giving such a broad range of depths. I guess they want me to say that all the fish are between 80 and 120 in the top 30 feet of water. OK. The fish are in 80 to 120 feet of water. They are also in 120 to 200 and 200 to 300. If you want to stay closer to shore, they are in the harbor and out to 50. They can be spotty. One boat might not catch any fish from 120 to 150, but the other boat may load up. It just means one hit school and the other did not. What are the charters doing…They are setting up from 130 to 200. Because there are more fish out there? No, less boats.
More fish were being taken today on downriggers. But, you cannot do better than a Richard’s blue green gold behind an orange double –o 5 feet behind a 5/8 ounce weight with an inline planer board. Mix one or two of your favorite color peanut flies with as many blue green gold as you can get your hands on. Dwnriggers down 20 to 90 feet will catch coho and kings. Dipseys back 40 to 70 are also responsible for hits once the coho have taken all of your birds out of the water. A cold front is on the way so go get before they are gone.
The next event on the calendar is the annual disabled veterans fishing trip on Wednesday June 15th. As always, they will be seeking fisherman willing to accommodate a vet or few aboard their boat. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Mary at 262 284-9144 or on her cell at 920 918-9144. they are hoping to line up more boats, so please give her a call.

One of the great parts about being a charter fisherman, is you often get to be there when things really get exceptional. Certainly we see the slow times, but wow is it great when we get to be there for the really fast action. I am gonna say it because after a good 24 hours of reflection, I am certain I am not exaggerating. Yesterday was the best coho fishing I have ever seen. From reports this morning, it has not changed today. If the weather holds out, it will not change tomorrow or Sunday. Have to weed the garden this weekend? Hire the neighborhood kid, or a pro gardener. Have a wedding? Re-schedule it. Get out on the water this weekend. Fishing like this does not come along often. Fish from 20 feet of water to 300 feet of water. There are some dead areas, but they seem to move around a bit. You may go an hour or two with only a couple fish, but when you hit the schools, hang on tight. 15 to 30 bites per hour has been the norm when you get into them. What to run, you may be able to chuck a beer can in the water and catch fish right now, but you would not see me out there for these coho without Rainbow Richard’s blue green gold peanut fly. I have been here 10 years and it may be the only can’t miss bait I have ever seen. He’s a one man show, so you better get to him early or he will run out. If he does run out, blue pearl and green with mystery have been decent too. I run one of each with the 6 blue green gold I have in the water when I am out.

Fishing Report - Memorial Day Weekend
On behalf of the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club, this is Captain Geoff with your Memorial Day weekend fishing report.
We have some very exciting announcements to make about this year’s fishing reports. First of all, we would like to thank Midwest Shooters for being the sponsor of our fishing report again this year. Midwest Shooters continues to build on their selection of great lakes salmon and trout fishing tackle. They are making a commitment to being a leading supplier to our sport. If you have not made a trip out there yet, you really should. If there is something they don’t have and you want, make sure to talk to Darren, or any member of the fishing team.
We also have a new enhancement to the fishing report this year. Are any of you out there Twitter-ers, tweeters, …familiar with Twitter? I certainly was not, but I am taking the crash course. You can now get up to the moment tips on the fishing if you sign up to receive tweets from pwfishreport. These tweets will simply be a quick tip about something that is working right now. That is, if I am on the water and I cannot keep the Rainbow Richard’s blue green gold peanut fly in the water, I will let you know. If you are on the water you will be able to use that tip while it is hot.
That is not the only hot tip you will get. Once per week, from June until Midwest Shooter’s Fall Fest in late August, I will tweet…”Caller #5 – 262 618-5060” Everyone who gets the tweet should get on the phone and call me. The fifth caller, in this case, will receive an awesome prize package. You will receive:
· A bait, picked by Captain Geoff and pre-rigged, in the case of a flasher fly.
· You will receive the charter captain discount for a day of shopping at Midwest Shooters supply. Bring your friends and fishing buddies and get big discounts on all the tackle you can carry out. This includes rods, reels and even on the rarely discounted Shimano gear.
· You will get $50 off of a 5-hour fishing charter with The Fish Doctors of Port Washington, and lastly,,,
· You will be entered into a drawing for a FREE 3 hour evening charter for September of this year.
Sign up now as the first tweets will go out next week and we will have our first winner
If that doesn’t get you fired up, then this should. Yes, the coho are here and in good numbers. Early this week the coho could be found out in 20 to 90 feet of water but they progressively moved out. Yesterday we were working 100 150 feet of water for most of the day with good action. Most of the hits are coming on yellow bird presentations. Orange double-O’s with peanut flies behind half to three quarter ounce inline weights. The most active was the fly that every coho fisherman must have at least 10 of. Rainbow Richard’s Blue Green Gold. I have been fishing in Port for 8 years and this fly is ON every year. That dodger fly combo also was active on a dipsey back 40 – 60 feet. We had some action on mystery behind a white flasher on a downrigger down 35 - 42.

Fishing Report - May 24th
On behalf of the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club, this is Captain Geoff. We had a nice taste of spring this weekend. Not only was the weather decent at most times, the fishing was excellent. That’s right, the coho’s are here and we are off to a great start already with limits of fish being taken. We’ll get back to that shortly.

Yesterday we were working 20 to 40 feet of water for most of the day with no shortage of action. Limits are very common. Most of the hits are coming on yellow bird presentations. Orange double-O’s with peanut flies behind half to three quarter ounce inline weights. Two hot colors dominated the bites. First and most active was the fly that every coho fisherman must have at least 10 of. Rainbow Richard’s Blue Green Gold. I have been fishing in Port for 8 years and this fly is ON every year. The second is the blue pearl, also from Richard. Small dipseys run back 40 – 50 feet and riggers down 17 – 23 also were taking bites. A few kings and some nice browns were mixed in with catches throughout the weekend.

If you have any faith in the weather forecasters left, then you hold some optimism that the weather is taking a turn for the rest of this week. The reports that we had early coho were confirmed, but it appears that it was more of a rogue school than the full annual migration. Those fish seemed to be making their more timely northerly swim as of last week. Since the weekend blow, we don’t know if they moved on, moved south, or moved east. Hopefully the weather will hold out and we’ll have some fisherman out this week and weekend. Fish were being caught from the shoreline out to 60 feet of water last week and coho, kings, browns, and lakers were all represented. Once things settle out, it could be a good week to set out and get back in your groove.

Fishing Report - May 4th 2011
On behalf of the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club, this is Captain Geoff. Well another fishing season is upon us. May has sort of snuck up on us this year, mainly because we have been having March weather for the past three months. Watching the weather today, we might be seeing something a bit more seasonal. Let’s hope they are right.
We have some very exciting announcements to make about this year’s fishing reports. First of all, we would like to thank Midwest Shooters for being the sponsor of our fishing report again this year. A fishing report is not a fishing report without… well… a fishing report. There have not been many people out fishing, but a few reports have trickled in. There are rumors that have the coho up to Milwaukee already. This would be considered early by most accounts, but no one is arguing with biting fish. Fisherman in Port have been catching browns and lakers near the harbor and along the shoreline out to 40 feet of water. No information is yet available on choice baits. As the weather improves, we should have more fisherman on the water and more information to share.
On behalf of our new sponsor, Midwest Shooter Supply and the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club, this is Captain Geoff wishing you all great fishing in 2011.
Fishing Report - Sept. 29th - End of Season Report
On behalf of the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club, this is Captain Geoff with your fishing report for September 29th.
So have you made the run out to Midwest Shooters supply yet to see their great tackle selection. If not, you should make the trip soon. Stop in and talk to Darren about the great deals they have this week on Lake Michigan tackle. For many, it is time to shift the budget over to hunting supply. They have an awesome selection of firearms and supplies. If you have never been out there, you really should make the trip and have a look around. Highway 41 and Hwy 67 in Lomira.
It is always nice to finish strong. I have good news from the big pond for my last report for the 2010 fishing season. It has been an excellent year for fishing overall. The fishing in June and July was spectacular. Fishing for August and September was decent as well, particularly if we forget about a couple weeks early this month. We saw excellent numbers and size for most of the year. I have never seen baitfish populations so high as I saw this year. We literally lost the bottom passing over thick schools of alewives a few times late this month and hopefully that means we will have big healthy fish for next year.
As for this week, I have reports of great catches of mixed rainbows, 2 and 3 year old kings, and lake trout from 200 feet of water out as far as you care to go. One boat today turned only a couple miles short of the reef and had 22 fish to show for the 6 hours they fished. Now we are talking about the numbers we saw in July again. Of course in September, that can turn to two fish in a hurry, but it is good news to hear you can be rewarded for picking the right day
A mix of spoons and flasher flies seem to be the best option. Gold/black spoon combos have been taking mixes of rainbows, cohos, and kings. Rainbows seem to like Pro Kings displaying purple, pink, and / or orange. Mystery, bullfrog, and little boy blue have been the best flies behind white or mountain dew flashers. Champagne flies behind orange double-o’s were also effective today.
The Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club would like to thank Midwest Shooters for coming on board as the sponsor of this fishing report. You too can thank them by paying them a visit for your Lake Michigan fishing or your hunting and firearms needs. They really do an outstanding job and will earn your business. Please tell them you appreciate their sponsorship for the fishing hotline and hopefully we will have them again for next year’s reports.
I would also personally like to thank you for your assistance with information and feedback. I hope you have found the reports to be helpful as I have tried to provide accurate and concise information about what is happening out on the big pond.
It’s meeting time for the club and the next meeting is Tuesday October 5th. I plan to attend so feel free to say and give me any ideas you have to improve the fishing hotline for next year.
On behalf of our new sponsor, Midwest Shooter Supply and the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club, this is Captain Geoff wishing you all great fishing.
Fishing Report - Sept 23rd
On behalf of the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club, this is Captain Geoff with your fishing report for September 23rd.
So have you made the run out to Midwest Shooters supply yet to see their great tackle selection. If not, you should make the trip soon. Stop in and talk to Darren about the great deals they have this week on Lake Michigan tackle. For many, it is time to shift the budget over to hunting supply. I have never seen such a great selection of firearms and supplies. If you have never been out there, you really should make the trip and have a look around. Highway 41 and Hwy 67 in Lomira.
Is there anything more schizophrenic than the weather in September? If so, it would have to be the fishing, and they are more tied together than any other time of the year. What better example than the past few days. Warm front Tuesday followed by cold front Wednesday. The thermometer offshore today…88 degrees. Tonight, cold front and back onto the 60’s. I know complaining about the weather is way overdone, but there are no other explanations for running your best baits over huge schools of bait and fish and coming up with a light cooler. Normally we would be second guessing our bait selection, but the fish are coming in with empty bellies. It appears the baitfish and game fish have formed a tenuous treaty against the fisherman this week. What they do not understand about fisherman is we are resolved if not patient. We’ll be back and they have to eat sooner or later.
So the question becomes, where to be when the treaty is broken? We marked tons of bait in the 150 to 200 foot range this morning. Fish were holding both above and below and appeared somewhat active. Strong southeast winds today should also have the shoreline stirred up and we marked a lot of bait in the 25 to 70 foot range yesterday. These areas should all be holding fish if you find a chance to get out this weekend. Beware strong west winds tomorrow and the affects on the fishing. Water temps in the 50’s are ideal now, but if we get the gale they are calling for, warm water may get pushed out again and you will have to hunt new water.
A mix of spoons and flasher flies seem to be the best option. Hammered silver Pro King magnum was a good hitter for the past week and gold/black combos have been taking mixes of rainbows, cohos, and kings. Mystery and little boy blue have been the best flies behind white or mountain dew flashers.
On behalf of our new sponsor, Midwest Shooter Supply and the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club, this is Captain Geoff wishing you all great fishing.
Fishing Report - Sept. 17th
On behalf of the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club, this is Captain Geoff with your fishing report for September 17th.
So have you made the run out to Midwest Shooters supply yet to see their great tackle selection. If not, you should make the trip soon. This morning was the first double-digit catch I have seen in a couple weeks. The fish have been on a hunger strike of some sort since labor day. Perhaps the strike will be resolved and the fish will return to work this weekend. Being an eternal optimist, or gluten for punishment anyways, I am holding out hope and plan to be on the water both Saturday and Sunday.
The good news is we have been marking fish pretty steady for the past couple weeks. They are simply scattered from 20 feet to 400 feet. The fact that they have not been concentrated has not helped fill the coolers, but at least it neutralizes the argument that we have fished out our little hole in the big pond. It is just a matter of getting some stability to get them to congregate. One area where you can find higher concentrations has been by working the southern shoreline. Most charters have been running from 10 to 30 feet of water along the south shore. The dirty water in there has been holding fish and bait and has been good for a few fish each trip. A mix of browns, cohos, and kings are roaming the shallows with an occasional rainbow or laker mixed in for variety.
Its been all j-plugs and spoons for the shallows. Green glow or white glow plugs, with or without ladderbacks have been solid. Hammered Pro Kings in silver or gold have also taken bites. Spoons have also been a strong presentation if you are going to wander the deeper water. Bring a little luck with you and hopefully the fishing will get back on track this weekend.
On behalf of our new sponsor, Midwest Shooter Supply and the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club, this is Captain Geoff wishing you all great fishing.
